An Ode to a Shoe: Sam Edelman Zoe Boots

One fateful night in 2010, I was out having dinner and drinks at Santana Row in San Jose.  As my group was gathering outside figuring out where to go next, I saw out of the corner of my eye, a well dressed girl with a pair of boots on.  They weren’t any ordinary pair of boots.  They were absolutely gorgeous! I had never seen boots like those before, and without shame I ogled those boots nonstop until it was time for us to leave.

It was really the first time I fell in love at first time.. with a shoe.

Through the power of the internet I found out the style and maker!  Hallelujah.  So I bought them online on my birthday that year on Lori’s Shoes using an online coupon.  They have since sold out from that site but due to its popularity it’s easily found online.  Today’s current Zoe prices haven’t changed much, and after two years of wear I believe the price is justified.

Sam Edelman – The Zoe Boot

The harness is removable, but I find that I like it on much better.

So over two years later… These boots are still one of my favorite shoes to go out in.  They have worn well too.. I took these shoe pics this morning and they still look great!  The hidden 1.25″ platform, wide base and thick heel make this shoe very comfortable… and I have very finicky feet.  I love the look of spindly stiletto heels but frankly I can’t hang!

How I style it:

Inspiration:

It’s super chunky.. but I think it makes the legs look slim especially with black skinnies.

Kanebo Sensai Liquid Lasting Velvet Foundation

My HG foundation has a new formulation!

When I first bought this product in 2009 it was simply the Sensai Fluid Finish foundation by Kanebo.  (See my original review here.) Then my sole shopping source it stopped selling it and I wasn’t able to buy.  :(

Recently Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus have added a new variation of this foundation to their online shopping sites:  ”Lasting Velvet.”  It has the same amazing qualities as its first generation counterpart, but it has a velvety matte finish.  And because of the subtle matte finish it has slightly better coverage.  If I want a dewy look instead, I can just add a highlighter on top of my cheeks.

It’s still very natural looking, still buildable, still 55% water-based, and they carry the exact range of shades as the first one.  I’m Soft Beige 202 for reference, and I’m approximately an NC20.  And it’s still the same price: $50 for 30mL of product in a glass pump form.

Yup I still love it! :)  Even after 2 years!

If you’re looking for a new foundie I recommend you try out this one.  And note: According to the Bergdorf Goodman website, “All fragrance and cosmetics returns must be unused, unopened, and in original packaging for a credit/refund or exchange to be issued.”  So I suggest you go to the store and test it out in person first to find the best shade for you.

NOTD: Revlon Peach Smoothie

I bought this during my Revlon nailpolish spree at CVS and I’m glad I bought it! This polish was one of my last picks out of the 6 I needed to buy and I’m very happy with it! It has a nice neutral peach color with subtle gold shimmer… unfortunately the shimmer didn’t show up in the photo though. I used 3 coats here.

[ Remember Crayola crayons and colored pencils in the "Peach" color? I, like most kids I'm sure, used this as a flesh color in drawings and this "Peach" looks really nice and subtle on the nails. Super random, comment, I know :) ]

This is one of Revlon’s new scented polishes and although the peach scent isn’t the best I’ve ever smelled, I’d rather smell this than the chemical scent of topcoat! My boyfriend Justin even commented on it, because he usually can smell my Seche Vite whenever I change nail colors.

I’ve had this polish on for at least 3 days now and the scent is faint but it’s definitely there. (I have had the Mango polish on my toes for a week but I’m not limber enough to comment on that one. haha.)

I’d recommend this if you’re looking to find an opaque, nude nail that doesn’t wash your skin out. The scent is long-lasting even with a pungent topcoat like Seche Vite! Fun and not noxious ;)

Ipad DodoCase Review

After I won an Ipad at my work Christmas party I was eager to find a nice case to carry it around in. I remembered reading an old post at Closet Therapy (great blog by the way!) about how much Sheena loved the Dodocase.

I ordered a pre-owned case from Ebay (the $60 price tag plus $10 shipping put me off so I got it for $59 total) and I’m happy to say that I have no regrets. I’m even glad I bought a used case because now I don’t have to be so careful with it.

The case features an inner bamboo casing with 3M plastic/rubber corners. My case is an older version with foam corners rather than 3M materials; my corners are pretty worn out and I went here to replace them (the nice folks at DodoCase send them to you for FREE!) and they are hopefully coming in the mail soon. You can also use it as a stand depending on the surface you rest it on which is great for playing games or watching videos.

Do I think this the best case for the Ipad? I’m not sure since this is my first case, but the aesthetics are more than enough to satisfy me.

Pros:
Super stylish and resembles a moleskine notebook
Comfortable to hold in your arms and hands on the go
Handmade by book binding artisans in the US (San Francisco)
Comes in various colors, red is default
Ages nicely like an old book (if you like that)

Cons:
Expensive
Not an “impact” case (will not protect it if it drops)
Colors other than red are $5 more
The case ages like an old book (if you don’t like that)
Does not stand up on all surfaces
May not hold up as long as other cases can
