PFC #8 Challenge: “Spinning The Favorite”

Many times we settle with a style and rarely venture out to explore new ways to piece clothes and style outfits in new and different ways. With this month, I’m hoping for all of us to venture out of our comfort zones to expand our styling skills.

Thus, the challenge will be to take a “go-to” outfit, put a spin on it by styling it in a different way but still keeping a couple of essential components.

If I didn’t care about repeating outfits, I would wear a striped 3/4 sleeve top and skinny jeans with ballet flats EVERYDAY. I love breton tops/striped shirts so much that I have 4 close variations of the same shirt: white with dark stripes! (I also have a black one with white stripes from Banana Republic not pictured here.. shhh!)

And on top of that I have 5 pairs of Gap legging jeans in nearly every wash so its easy to see how I’m able to wear this ‘uniform’ often. This ensemble is very gamine/european chic IMHO and I think I’ll love this combo forever.

For this PF challenge I decided to amp up the shirt a bit by adding “paper-bag” silk trousers with snakeskin heels, and I topped it all off with a casual straw hat. I then added my hand-me-down LV crossbody bag and a lace bow necklace I bought from Japan to add a little quirkiness.

Part casual, part fancy with a bit of cute mixed in! :D

Top from H&M
Silk pants from Forever 21

Vintage LV bag
Bow necklace from Japan
Straw hat from Abercrombie

I went thrifting with my dad a couple days ago and right before checkout I stumbled upon this vintage Christian Dior blazer for $30. Cream wool, 1980′s sharp shoulders, collarless, new with tags and in a size 2P!

2 PETITE!

I peeked at the tag quickly and saw that it was made in the USA. My dad was paying for his thrift goodies at the register and I bolted to a tiny mirror to try it on… the fit seemed good but I still wasn’t 100% sure. And I wasn’t completely sure about authenticity and if Dior was made in the USA in the 80′s so I left it there and went home.

I did some Googling to check out other vintage Dior blazers and lo and behold, yes they were made in the USA!

I HAD TO GO BACK.

So this past Thursday after work I go back to the thrift store and there was a huge painted sign on the windows: “FRIDAYS 50% CLOTHES AND SHOES!” After verifying with the store attendant that this was true, I immediately called my dad to swing by today to get it for me. $15!

And even though I got it without trying it on in the mirror, today I am sold :)

Sorry for the blurry pictures.. I was in a rush!

This outfit:
Christian Dior Blazer (80′s) Size 2- ($15 gifted by dad)
Gap Legging Jeans 00R
Forever 21 suedette slingback stilettos (current)
Banana Republic pink top Size XS, also thrifted

I’m so happy :)

Fashion, outfit, petite fashion challenge

The challenge:
Who is your celeb style icon? Pick an outfit from your favorite celeb and show us how to recreate that look for less. Usually, your style icon reflects your personal style and also your body type. In this challenge, your style icon doesn’t have to be a petite.

I’ve chosen Blake Lively as my fashion muse! I wouldn’t say she is my favorite celeb style icon but I love her bold looks and she pulls them off flawlessly… I tend to shy away from attention-grabbing outfits so I think in that respect she’s very inspirational :)

Here is the outfit:

{image from frugal fashionistas}

Her jacket is from Haute Hippie: (the line has gorgeous clothes but it is HORRENDOUSLY EXPENSIVE)

Her shoes are Pierre Hardy:

My take: (excuse my ghoulish legs and the blurry pic :P )

Romeo & Juliet Couture Sequin blazer Size Medium from Loehmanns $15
Ruffle romper Size Small from Macys $5
House of Harlow Necklace from Amazon $65
Vintage suede belt from Goodwill $3
BCBG snakeskin heels Size 7 from Nordstrom Rack $55

Shoes and necklace closeup:

The only suitable clutch that could go with this outfit… the only monstrous clutch I own :)

Hayden Harnett for Target:

I didn’t have a pink belt on me and my outfit is mainly black since I don’t go too crazy with color in general… But I think I’d wear this outfit again :)

Thanks to PetiteLG for hosting this challenge~!
