Nobu Black Cod with Miso

Ugh.  My dad left me a huge container of awase (mix of red and white) miso and I’m desperate to not waste it.

I was planning to follow this Nobu recipe, but alas, it calls for white miso. And only white miso.   I bought a couple of fresh and well-priced black cod fillets this morning at my local Japanese market and made the marinade with my leftover awase miso.  Whoops!

I hope they don’t turn out too salty!

EDIT:

They turned out perfect!!!  It was a perfect mix of sweet and savory.  My SO gave it 5 Stars.  I’m a happy (full) girl!

Image and recipe from rasamalaysia:

Recipe: Black Cod with Miso (Miso-marinated Black Cod)
Adapted from Nobu: The Cookbook

Ingredients:

2-3 black cod fillets (about 1 lb)

For the marinate:

1/4 cup sake
1/4 cup mirin
4 tablespoons of white miso paste
3 tablespoons of sugar

Method:

  1. Mix the marinate ingredients thoroughly in a plastic container (with lid) and set aside. Save some for plating purposes.
  2. Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and put them into the plastic container with the marinate. Cover the lid and leave to steep in the refrigerator overnight or for 24 hours.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degree F.
  4. Preheat an indoor grill at the same time.
  5. Lightly wipe off (with fingers) any excess miso marinate clinging to the fish fillets but don’t rinse it off. Place the fish on the grill and lightly grill on both sides until the surface turns brown.
  6. Transfer the fish fillets to the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add a few extra drops of the marinate on the plate and serve hot.
  • Next week I’ll attempt this with the correct miso!

Uh oh just when I’m lusting over the Lunasol Lighting for Eyes palette here comes a new  line of KATE palettes for fall!

    $26.99 on Ebay

I may just get one palette from this line instead of the Lunasol palette.  I always love KATE shadows and at least this one is around $10 cheaper.

PU-2, GN-1, or BR-2? I’m not sure what to choose!

Lunasol Lighting For Eyes & Ishizawa Urea + Hyaluronic Acid Creme

Yup, I’m still thinking about this palette!

Unfortunately, I’ve already reached $25 out of my $35 cosmetics/toiletries budget for the month of August.  And its not even the 5th yet!!!

    What I spent it on:

Hyaluronic acid + Urea creme from Ishizawa Labs (Japanese site).  Check out the translation here.  I bought it at my local Mitsuwa market.

Non-greasy, super hydrating!  Turns dry, flaking skin into a soft, smooth complexion with urea and hyaluronic acid.  No artificial colors or perfumes, no mineral oil.

Urea draws the moisture in, hyaluronic acid prevents it from escaping.

The pink represents urea and the puffy white marshmallow guys are the hyaluronic acid.  Cute, no?

More details and a proper review later on when I’m not so sleepy!

We’ll see about the Lunasol palette.  I’m predicting I’ll buy it eventually ($45 with free shipping, possibly no tax either via Mihokofamily.com).  I may jump the gun, buy it this month and skimp in other areas of my budget, or just wait until September.

Since my 24th birthday is in a few days, I’m afraid that I might spoil myself, haha.  Time will tell!
