Finally… a Target collection to get excited about!  Remember when the designer clothing collaborations made the general public go bananas?  (Missoni?  Rodarte?) I think those days are finally over, but I’m honestly very excited for the Nate Berkus decor collection that’s coming to stores on October 21st.

I have two of his lamps in the bedroom and even though time has passed I still love them very much.  He is very good at blending modern, organic, warmth and glamour together!  I am a big fan of gold and metallics.

{see more home photos here}

My favorites:

The turtle wall hanging, the ikat towels, the geometric picture frame and the faceted gold vase!  And maybe a pillow or two.

Do you see anything you like?  I’m not sure if I should buy right when the collection comes out or wait until clearance time. Hmm.

Mirror, mirror

I found this Indonesian-made mirror at Marshalls last night for $30.  The glue on the back piece of the mirror was coming loose, so I asked the cashier if I could get a discount.  She was kind enough to take $5 off!  I fixed it in 3 minutes using my trusty hot glue gun.

Now I can do a hair and face check before going out!

I’ve been searching for a circular mirror for the entryway for a very long time.  I keep seeing square or rectangular mirrors in all of the big box stores but I have a lot of pieces that are angular around the house.  I think this breaks it up a little bit.

Rawr!

I just bought this beauty.

{via debbie carlos // buy here}

This gigantic poster is 36″x48″.  Huge pieces of artwork don’t usually come cheap (believe me, I’ve looked) and I love photographs of crystals.  It’s brooding and *dare I say it,* sexy!  Debbie also makes other prints (and in color too) so do check out her shop!  I still need to figure out how to hang it though.  I’m thinking… custom framing job.

Initially I had the idea of painting a huge abstract canvas.  My first painting project was a success… but I don’t think I can find an inexpensive canvas with the amount of depth that I’d like and the pressure of figuring out what to paint is too much. What if I mess up?

Here is where the poster is going to go:

I think many people would say I’m making a mistake by replacing the Michelle Armas canvas print.  I received a lot of compliments on the piece from my EveryGirl feature… Don’t get me wrong I really like the print but honestly I would have preferred her darker, cool-toned Secret Garden work instead.  I like pinks but I think I prefer them in smaller doses.

There’s also another important reason why I’m changing up the decor.

I have officially asked Justin to move in with me next year when his lease is up.

(Whooooop!)

This will be the first time I’ve officially moved in with a boy!  It’ll be easier on both of our budgets so we can save a little bit more for our future together. In the past I told Justin that once we move in together I’d make the place a little more gender-neutral.  The bedroom is already on the masculine side but the gigantic PINK print won’t work anymore.  And I’d love a change!

This Lonny photo is still haunting me!  I already have the brass lamp too.

This is also why I’m trying to pare down my things.  We are going to be living in a >900 sq ft space!  I’ve already emptied out the 2nd master closet for him in preparation.  (And the closets we have are not very big.)  I need to learn to live with less and it’ll take some time to get used to it.

I’m excited! :D

Paint Project Before & After: Be@rbrick & Frame

I finally got around to painting these two guys!  I found the frame at a thrift store for ~$1 and the large Be@rbrick was $25.  I don’t think it was authentic but I was planning on painting it anyway.  I still need to buy more photo paper to print out a photo and fill up that frame.

I really LOVE spray painting now.  It’s so much cheaper than buying new items for the home.  Paint cans run around $5 or so.  2 projects down, many more to go!

Patio Painting Project: Complete!

We painted the patio furniture black!

I figured since I had a lot of black accessories outside already I might as well keep things consistent.

I also flipped the rug over to highlight the cream instead of the blue.  It may be a bad choice due to dirt but I can easily hose it down with water or flip it again to blue.

My giant succulent bowl:

I didn’t blog about the process of making this, but basically I bought this plastic bowl planter from Target.  I found a pretty arrangement of succulents in a standard bowl arrangement from Home Depot.  I think the arrangement was between $20 and $30.  The original bowl looked similar to this one.  Yuck.  Ugly.

What I did to transfer it over was this:  I let the original arrangement sit for a while so the soil dried out.  Then once dry, I flipped the bowl over, shook it a bit, and released the plants from the bowl.  Thankfully most of the roots and soil stuck together so it didn’t fall apart!  I then plopped the mass of plants into the new white planter and filled in the gaps with cactus potting soil.  Yay!  Much prettier.

The fern was less than $10 and I used this other planter from Target to complement it nicely.  I originally bought succulents for their hardiness and as a result the chance of me killing them is greatly reduced.  This is my first fern… I think this one is supposed to be hardy as well so here’s to hoping I don’t kill this one!  Heh.
