TIP: Make sure to dry thoroughly between each coat :]

TIP: If you don’t have stamping plates, use a dotting tool or toothpick to make four leaf clovers. Apply 4 dots in a square shape and you’re done! :D No fancy equipment needed. For the plaid print, use a fine brush dipped in polish or a nail art polish equipped with a striping brush.

I bought this makeup tutorial book while in Japan last year and I wanted to share it with you! (I have no rights to these images whatsoever)

Like many others I really enjoy Japanese fashion magazines and I’m grateful to those who take the time to scan and share it with others who don’t have the opportunity to read them in person. The very generous Eki from a little bit of Eki does Japanese magazine scans often and more scans can also be found at this livejournal community: jmagazinescans.livejournal.com .

I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. :)

CVS haul

Sorry I’ve been so MIA! I guess its because I’ve been so busy at CVS.. haha. :P I’ve included the prices (I think they should be correct, if not they are close) and mini reviews for the products I’ve tried out.

My CVS haul during the 50% to 75% off sale:

Sally Hansen Natural Beauty Instant Definition Eye Shadow Palettes – $2.12 each

From left to right: Metallic, Ocean, Earth, Storm, Mountain. I bought one palette at first (Mountain) and I was hooked. These shadows are finely milled and the colors are pretty and subtle for everyday. (They also got great reviews on Makeupalley.) I hate how bulky the packaging is though.

L’Oreal HIP Kohl liners – $3.37 each (I almost got the whole color range..oops)
(Left to right:) Burgundy, brown, navy, black)

I kept seeing all the colors except for black and I finally found one! This got great reviews on Youtube and makeupalley (except for fallout problems) and I am curious to see how these hold up on a night out. I love kohl on the waterline so I will experiment more with these.

Sally Hansen Hand Cream – $2.32
Nothing too fancy.. this is for my desk at work!

Rimmel Quad Eyeshadow in Smokey Purple – $1.82 but Free after using $2 Rimmel Facebook coupon
This was just okay. The color payoff wasn’t too great and it feels a bit chalky. I don’t own too many purple shadows so I wanted to try out out, plus it was free, so I don’t feel bad.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips blush in Healthy Glow – $3.25
Pretty in the pan, but more of a highlighter than a blush. Very frosty. Maybe I’ll try a few shades as eyeshadow?

Sally Hansen Diamond 12 hour lip treatment – $1.75 each but used a $1.00 off coupon…that’s just $0.75 each! I just looked at coupons.com and the coupon has already expired.. sorry! =( (but check there once every week or so because they do have printable makeup coupons that pop up)

I bought one in Engaging (sheer baby pink with tons of sparkle) and one in Princess (peachy nude cream). There are a lot of shades available but these two seemed the most wearable to me. I’ve only used Engaging once and Princess is unopened so I don’t have any solid opinion on these yet.

L’Oreal HIP pigments – $3.20 each

Restless (pale cream) and Visionary (golden brown). I like using Restless in the inner corner of the eye and Visionary is nice for additional sparkle on a natural eye.

Rimmel Royal Gloss Lipgloss – $1.50 each but free after using the $2 Facebook Rimmel coupon

I bought Peach Crush and Sweet Lust… Despite the sheerness I LOVE the feel of these and the Peach Crush scent is so yummy!

Revlon ColorStay Bronzer (Bought for contouring) – $3.49
I bought Golden Bronze… anything darker would be too muddy on me. I’m no contouring expert but I’m satisfied with this product.

Rimmel Kiss & Stay Lipgloss – $1.99 but Free after using $2 Rimmel Facebook coupon
I bought English Rose and Lustrous Nude. English Rose is a bright magenta pink on me.. a bit much. I wore it out once with my parents just to try it out and my mom told me it was far too bright for my face. Oh well. I guess I’ll just use the sheer gloss side. I still haven’t used Lustrous Nude yet.

Japan Makeup Haul

I have one more Japan Trip post to do (Tokyo Part II) but before I do that, here’s what I bought makeup-wise in Japan with quick reviews!

(If you’d like to buy, I’ll try my best to find appropriate links)

From left:

  • Candy Doll Lipgloss in Macaron Pink
  • Rimmel Nude Plump Laquer in 006 (exclusive to Japan, not in UK or US)
  • Makemania Lip Concealer
  • Canmake Nudy Glow Lipgloss in 004
  • INTEGRATE stunning hydra moisture lipstick in PK261 (I think that’s the translation) (similar here)

Mini review:

My favorite is definitely the Rimmel Nude Plump gloss! A peachy nude without being too washed out. I’m so sad this is only available in Japan… If we had an opaque nude gloss line for Rimmel in the USA I swear girls would be going crazy!

The Canmake Nudy Glow gloss is more of a milky nude… this one washes me out a bit and I’m still trying to find a way to wear this without looking .. dead. haha. Also still trying to find a way to wear the Candy Doll gloss nicely.. this one feels more “dry” and it accentuates dry skin on the lips.

I haven’t tried out the lip concealer yet.

The INTEGRATE lippie is very sheer and moisturizing. It gives off a very wet look.

Swatches:

A closer look at the INTEGRATE lippie:

Mascara and liners: (from top)

  • Fiberwig Tiny Sniper
  • Kate Liquid Eyebrow in BR-3
  • K-Palette Real Lasting Eye Pencil in Black
  • K-Palette Real Lasting Eyeliner in Black
  • Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus
  • Fiberwig Extra Long

I like the Fiberwig Tiny Sniper.. I guess the fibers could be longer but it’s still okay for lower lashes.

I use the KATE liquid eyebrow pen every day… its basically a very diluted brown eyeliner and it stays put all day.

I haven’t used the K-Palette lasting eye pencil yet, but I bought the K-Palette eyeliner pen as a backup since they sell it here at my local Mitsuwa.

The MM Lash Expander Plus is FABULOUS.. I think I like this better than my regular Fiberwig, actually. It gives off a slight wet look.

I haven’t used the Fiberwig Extra Long mascara yet because I’m still using up my old one.

Extra items:

  • Parado Glitter Nail Polish
  • (seen here and here)

  • No-brand glitter polish from 100 yen store
  • Canmake Cheek Gradation Blush

I ADORE the Parado glitter polish! Its actually used for glitter tips for french manis but I love brushing it all over the nail. I’m going to be so sad when this is gone…Haven’t used the middle glitter polish yet!

The Canmake blush is pretty in the compact and the color payoff is sheer, which is fine for me. I guess its not that remarkable but I’m not a big blush person anyway.

Eyeshadows:

Sweets Sweet Glitter Brown Eyeshadow
Lavshuca Melty Eyes in OR-1
KATE Reflect Mirror Eyes in OR-1
KATE Gradical Eyes in OR-1

I went a little crazy with orange/peach colored eyeshadows. I already have my HG KATE Glamtrick Eyes in BR-1 which is more of a golden-brown palette so I wanted to warm up my eyes with something new!

The Lavshuca palette is my absolute favorite of the shadows I bought… the shadows are so silky and not overly glittery. Fallout isn’t bad either.

The KATE Gradical eyes palette… eh. I’ve seen better color payoff.

The KATE Mirror Reflect palette… I haven’t really used this aside from the center color for underneath my eyes.

Foundations:

Moisture Forming Powder UV in O-20 for F/W 2010

I keep this in my purse at all times for touchups! Honestly this is my first powder foundation and I really like it.

What it claims: Powder foundation in 7 shades with SPF20 and PA++. It has a light texture that helps to maintain moisture, conceal pores as well as provide a translucent glowy effect.

Treatment Lasting Compact UV in O-20 for F/W 2010

I use this everyday now… I MUST find a backup because I LOVE THIS FOUNDATION. Right now its going on Ebay for $50+ so I’m waiting for another option. It’s super smooth and covers nicely.

What it claims: Cream foundation that transforms into powder upon application. This provides long-lasting coverage of pores and moisturising benefits. Available in 7 shades with SPF24 PA++ and can be applied with either a dry or damp sponge. The foundation comprises 70% treatment ingredients and combines the soft natural finish of liquid foundations with the light texture of powder foundations.

Dolly Wink Lashes:
No. 2 and No. 5

Yes these lashes are everywhere! I’ve worn out both types once already and I love how pliable the lash band is. I thought they would be overly long on me but thankfully they turned out okay.

Other lashes:
Couldn’t find info for the top left ones.. sorry :( Its too bad because I like these a lot.. they have a lot of volume as far as the number of lashes but the individual lashes have varying thicknesses….the end effect looks like very soft fur and they look super natural. The rest are from 100 yen shops.

Diamond lashes:

That’s a lot lashes per pack! I’m unsure of where to buy these online :( But I think these will last me a long time.. I don’t go through lashes that fast! I’ve tried on a pair from the middle set so far… I love spiky falsies with volume! :D

Thanks for reading! :)

San Gabriel and Makeup Haul *pic heavy*

Disclaimer: Never in my life have I bought this much makeup at one time.  As a PF-type blogger maybe this is completely out of my expertise and I definitely am a little ashamed that I bought so much (I never do beauty hauls!!!) but… I only go to San Gabriel once in a blue moon, aka once a year or even less.  Is that my excuse?  I guess it is!  :P  My beauty budget will definitely kill me this month but… only once in a while, right? I save my money, I work hard with a full time science-related job and an Etsy shop, and I spend less than I earn…. so if you would be so kind, please let me have this little slice of bliss. :)

Anyway so after my little sister’s graduation ceremony in San Diego I stopped by my favorite LA beauty spot…. SAN GABRIEL.

And my #1 spot? TAKASHIMA. AKA Japanese makeup HEAVEN *cue the singing angels* The prices are pretty expensive (in my eyes, anyway) and you can get a lot of their individual products on Ebay for much cheaper.  But who can beat having everything all in one spot?  It makes things much easier.  Plus computer images from Ebay can’t reflect what the products look like IRL, especially eyeshadow.

I took a ton of secretive pics from my phone because I wanted to show you how insane this store really is:

I was completely dazed by the amount of Maquillage and Coffret D’or.  (I bought a Maquillage eyeshadow palette, pics below)  Too bad Lunasol wasn’t there though:

Hairstyling and makeup supplies:

Aisle pic (everywhere you look there are interesting products and advertisements):

Palty and a plethora of other hair dyes and haircare products:

Dolly Wink lashes were nearly sold out (not surprising):

I also went to a couple other Japanese clothing/makeup stores (forgot their names, sorry) as well as a department store.  Integrate and KATE makeup (I bought an Integrate palette, pics below):

Again, overpriced but the selection is worth it.  They also had huge falsies sets for $14.  I didn’t buy any because I already have 1 set from a year ago and I’m STILL not finished.

Department store beauty products at the New Capital department store:

They had a lot of Dolly Wink there in comparison to sold-out Takashima for $18.49 and STILL no #1 lash set.

Skin79 BB creams, I believe.  It was insane because I went to a boutique 10 minutes earlier and they were selling the hot pink and gold BB creams for a whopping $64.99 in comparison to the $34.99 price tag here.  Markup much!?

Handmade nail sets from Japan!  Still pretty expensive.  They’re very nice to look at but a bit too impractical for my life. :(

More lash sets (I forgot which brand these are, sorry):

Shisem lashes (you can tell I’m a big falsie person from all of these lash photos):

Look at the huge lineup of Beauty Diary masks!  I didn’t want one huge box of a single type for $16.99 so my mom got me a mixed variety set for $9.99 (pics below):

I know these 2 are old products but I never get tired of seeing the adorable packaging.  I think the seal one is for blackheads and the alligator one is for fine lines? Check out their “after” pics in the top right corner! Hehe:

Onto the actual buys!  I bought some cheap Bath and Body works products for traveling ($6 total!) as well.

Maquillage GY867 and Integrate BR730:

I swear I took like 10 minutes trying to decide what Maquillage palette to buy.  I bought it for $60 after tax which I now realize is insanely marked up… you can buy it on Ebay for about $10 less or even more.  Oh well.  I don’t regret it because I got to see the palettes in person.

The reason why I chose the GY867 is because I wanted to find something cool-toned and wearable for work.  My BR-1 KATE Glamtrick palette gets used every day and I’m getting a little bored with warm tones.

On the back they have specific names for each color, which is convenient.  I believe they sell individual colors on Ebay but I’m not sure if they are universal for every palette.

Integrate BR730!  Again, I went for the cool brown tones which IMHO are SO difficult to find nowadays.  Every brown eye palette I see is always so reddish or orangey.

Maquillage GY867 (no flash):

The color payoff is nice… I didn’t swatch these with my fingers (Q-tips) but I should have.  These swatches would have looked much better that way.  Forgive me, these are my first swatch pics ever!  The last 2 colors are the cream liners.  The liners do have a bit of sparkle in the pans but I find that the sparkle goes away when you put them on.  Sigh. :(

Maquillage GY867 (flash):

Integrate BR730 (no flash):

Wow I didn’t have high hopes for this Integrate palette but the payoff is awesome.  (Swatched with fingers) The 3rd color is INSANELY sparkly.  You can tell from the non-flash pic that even in indirect sunlight the sparkles shine so brightly!

Integrate BR730 (flash):

My Beauty Diary masks LE in a pack of 7:   (sorry about the watermarks I don’t know what happened there. Heh.)

From Sephora I bought Smith’s Lip Balm in Minted Rose in place of plain ol’ vaseline and some Tweezerman tweezers since my MAC tweezers are dying.  I got the Physicians Formula blush from Ebay, I just got it in the mail today.

Minted Rose closeup!  This feels so nice on the lips.
And my long-awaited Ebay nail polishes came while I was away (3rd and 4th ones are from Walgreens last week):
With names:
Gorgeous Hidden Treasure:
Phew!  I think that was my longest and most picture-heavy post ever.  I did buy a few clothes but maybe that will go into another future post.
