Aside from our Fiji & Sydney trip in May, we’ll be having one more ‘big’ vacation in 2013.
Halloween in Oahu is supposedly epic and Justin has always wanted to experience it. So we’ll be going for a week in October!
We’ll be staying at the Westin Moana Surfrider at Waikiki Beach:

This will be our 2nd Starwood property stay. According to the spg.com website normal rates start from $350/night. EXPENSIVE.
But after using 28,800 Starwood points our rate will be $90/night. Some extra fees will be tacked on (sigh) but I’ll take a 50%+ discount for a property as nice as this! I remember seeing this hotel on our first Oahu trip in 2011 and I thought it was SO beautiful… and now we’ll actually be staying there! I recently completed the minimum spend for the Starwood AMEX Business card so the 25K points I got funded most of this hotel stay.
I also booked 2 tickets through Alaska Airlines using 50,000 British Avios points. (Thanks to the Chase British Airways card). The final cost out of pocket was $60 for the two of us. Sweet deal.
Has anyone been to Hawaii during Halloween? If so, let me know!

Wow that sounds so nice! I’m so jealous!
Gosh, I haven’t even planned this weekend yet. But I guess that is how you do it – I gotta get planning – thanks for the motivation and wake up call…
Truthfully I don’t know what I’m doing this weekend either
But! For big vacations I like to plan things out WAY in advance. Maybe a little bit TOO far in advance sometimes ;D
My cousin got married there a few years ago and it’s beautiful! They said it’s the oldest hotel on Waikiki. So jealous of your vacations! I should sign up for some rewards credit cards!
When I am ready to dive into CC points, I’m coming to your site first! Can’t wait to hear all abou the trip, the hotel looks gorgeous and that is a great price you got it for!
Happy new year to you too Janelle.
btw looking forward to your nail tutorial!
I think you will enjoy Halloween in Waikiki. The streets are FILLED with people dressed up, just walking up and down the Kalakaua strip.
Too cool! I just got back on the 3rd and I absolutely loved Oahu! Still need to save up some money before I can afford the Westin…. I definitely saw it several times when I was walking back to my Ohana hotel. I can’t wait to go back again.
